"Behave."
Parents have told their children to behave for centuries, and yet--that is not what creates greatness.
I was leaving the public library a little earlier today, having picked up the latest selection for my book club (Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver). As I left the building, I saw two boys close in age hopping and skipping, climbing on the wall and laughing as their mom said “Okay, you’re going to go with Brianna for an hour to the Wizard class. I’ll be back to pick you up in an hour.”
“Whoo—hooo!!!!” The boys yelled and jumped. (I would have whooped and jumped, too if I was going to a Wizard class. I almost asked if adults were allowed.)
“Behave!” she said, looking at one in particular, who pretty much ignored her.
